Amma’s Spice supports worthy charities such as Children Of The Dawn, Alex Aids Orphans as well as schools, street kids & old age homes. The sale of each book feeds 10 children.. Mothers are compassionate and loving beings and AMMA SPICE values Philanthropy and aims to support worthy charities. Thank you for your contribution !

According to the South African Child Gauge 2008/2009, South Africa counts some 3'700'000 orphans (0-17) having lost either parent or both. In response to this crisis, Children of the Dawn provides rural South African communities with an effective and innovative model for orphaned and vulnerable children.

Mmasape is one of many children presently on Children of the Dawn’s waiting list. She is only 7 years old. She comes from a very impoverished family of rural South Africa. She is a single-orphan from mother and her father is unknown. She is being cared for by her maternal aunt and grandmother whom are all unemployed and the household has no income at all. They live in a house without running water or toilets. You can help to change Mmasape’s life by becoming her sponsor or finding a sponsor for her.

“In sponsoring an orphan or vulnerable, you can change the future of one South African child! Since the start of the programme 10 years ago, we have transformed the lives of over 750 orphaned and vulnerable children, offering them basic necessities and HOPE! For R240 a month, you could change the life of a little one and strengthen the whole community. R240? For us: a meal at a restaurant, an item of clothing. And the donation is tax-deductible. For a Dawn Child: a month of food, toiletries, schooling, clothes and care…a new Dawn!”

SPICE BOOK PUTS FOOD ON THE TABLE FOR THE LESS FORTUNATE

FOR EVERY ONE BOOK SHE SELLS, ANNUSHA GOVENDER FEEDS 10 HUNGRY CHILDREN.

AT first sight, Annusha Govender appears to be an ordinary shop owner, but what sets her apart is that she is a caring entrepreneur who, through her humanitarian efforts, helps to feed those who are less fortunate.

By selling her recipe book, Amma’s Spice – South Africa’s Mother of Spice, Govender (43) raises money to continue her good work.

She says caring for people was nurtured in her by her grandmother, who was also passionate about the well-being of humanity.

She published her book in 2011 in order to pass on this legacy while honouring what her mother and grandmother instilled in her.

“This is an informative book about spices that also gives health tips to people. It has 100 recipes and allows me to give back to the needy,” Govender said.

For every one book she sells, she feeds 10 hungry children. So far, Govender has helped to feed Aids orphans in Alexandra, Children of the Dawn and Actonville Primary School learners.

Others who have benefited come from as far afield as Tzaneen. Beneficiaries include individuals and temporary foster kids.

Govender aims to grow her charity. “We want to continue being the place whose primary aim is to help the needy and we want to create happiness for our customers.

“I was taught not to be selfish and to care for people,” Govender added. “This is a perfect thing that will allow us to achieve that. My whole family is passionate about living up to the legacy.”
